ولضرورة تطوير الاتصال بين مدن القناة الاخري تم مد خطوط السكك الحديدية سريعا . وأنشئت محطة السكة الحديد بالأسماعيلية في عام 1869 من أجل افتتاح خطوط القطارات التي ستربط بين الأسماعيلية والقاهرة والسويس . والمحطة عبارة عن منشأة خفيف أنيق محاط برواق مرفوع علي أعمده ترتكز علي منصة مبنية من الطوب .
أختير موقع المحطة في الحد الشمالي للمربعات المكونة لمخطط المدينة . ثم أفتتح في عام 1891 خط الترام الذي ربط بين الاسماعيلية وبورسعيد.
وكما هو الحال في بورسعيد , نجد أن المنشأت الخاصة صارت متعددة في الاسماعيلية . فاسرع التجار الاوربيين والمصريين المنجذبين للمدن الواعدة بالرخاء القريب . في التمركز في أفضل الاماكن في المدينة فوق أراضي الإمتياز التي لم تستغل لصالح تشغيل القناة أو في تلك التي تم الاستغناء عنها او تم عرضها للبيع من قبل الشركة أو من قبل الحكومة المصرية . وهكذا تكونت مخازن خاصة وافتتحت محلات وأقيمت فنادق ومقاهي مشاركة بذلك في تطور النشاط التجاري والصناعي للمدن ذات الموانئ.
وقد أجمل ماريوس-اتيان فونتان ( 1838-1914 ) , المؤرخ والصحفي وسكرتير فردينان دليسبس والذي اصبح مديرا اداريا للشركة عام 1854 , في العبارة التالية اصالة مدينة الاسماعيلية قائلا : (( تبدو الاسماعيلية في هيئتها كمدينة أوربية نقلت الي الشرق . فقد استعار طابعها من الحضارتان أبرز ما فيهما وأكثرهما فائدة , وأكبر برهان علي ذلك هو هيئة منشآتها )).

For the need to develop a communication between the cities of channel was extended railway lines quickly.
